Javo's Journal AND Chemical Etching

Updated: Jun 27, 2023

We are thrilled to share with you the latest updates from our engraving and laser lab. Our team is always working hard to improve services and expand our capabilities, and we can't wait to show you what can be accomplished.

New Machine on its way!

We are excited to announce that a new toy for the team to play with is on its way to our workshop. An acid etching machine!

Acid etching, also known as chemical etching or photo etching gives us the ability to machine complex, highly accurate precision metal components and deep engrave a variety of metals. Used in conjunction with our lasers we will be able to provide incredibly detailed etchings that can be paint filled in a variety of colours, if you need etched signage, presentation plaques or fancy machine id plates this is the kiddie for you!

By using our lasers which are a type of computer-controlled engraving machine that uses laser technology to create highly detailed designs on a variety of surfaces we can create intricate designs, ready to be acid etched.

The acid etching machine is a game-changer in our world of engraving. With its advanced technology, it allows for even deeper engraving, resulting in a beautiful finish, as well as making paint filled finishes look even better. It will take your designs to the next level. This machine is perfect for intricate designs that require precise engraving, and we can't wait to show you the amazing results that it can produce. And see what James can decide to put in it!

We are always looking for ways to improve our services and stay at the forefront of the industry. We believe that this machine will give us a competitive edge and enable us to offer even more creative and unique designs to our clients.

In addition to this we'll have access to Lasers, Acid, and a pizza oven! Now all we need is a spider of some sort and we'll be on our way to superhero land!

QR Codes

Something else we have been playing with are QR codes. We have engraved these on brass discs for pubs and restaurants, but wondered how far we could take them. So we spoke to a ‘really interesting’ chap about what we could put behind the QR codes and looked at how we could use in our internal serving system. QR codes are becoming increasingly popular as a tool for streamlining processes and making work more efficient, and we are proud to be using them in our workshop.

In our latest video, we demonstrate how these codes are being used in our internal serving system. By simply scanning a code with a smartphone, our team members can quickly access a form to input all of the data we need, which can then be pulled out to be filed. This helps to reduce errors and increase efficiency, ultimately resulting in a better experience for our clients.

Our Machines/Toys

We have four, soon to be five machines in our workshop, each with its own unique capabilities. Our Rotary engraver is perfect for traditional mechanical engraving, while our 80w and 120w lasers (with large format and pass-through capabilities) provide precision engraving for a variety of materials. Our 20w Fibre laser is perfect for engraving all types of metal and plastics, as it operates over a different wavelength to our other machines.

With this range of machines, we can cater to a wide variety of design requirements and materials. Our team is highly skilled in using each of these machines to their fullest potential, ensuring that each job is completed to the highest standard possible. We are going to show off some more great info on these machines in our serialisation.

Wittering’s of a Engraver!

Power cuts seem to always happen at the most inconvenient times, don't they? And Why!

That's Sod's Law for you! It's like the universe has a twisted sense of humour and likes to mess with us just for the fun of it.

This week we had just set up for a massive job on one of the lasers, checked it and reset it after Sam spotted a mistake, and then the power goes out. No warning, no time scale. Thank god! Have you noticed it's always just as you want to do something, not after, like when you're boiling the kettle for a cuppa, not once you have the cuppa

Sods’ law is like Murphy's Law's evil twin. Whenever you really need things to work out in your favour, you can bet that something will go wrong just to mess with you. So, next time you find yourself in a situation like this, just remember: it's not you, it's Sod's Law!

Despite these frustrating moments, our team is dedicated to providing the best possible service to our clients. We always strive to overcome any obstacles and ensure that each job is completed on time and to the highest standard.

Best regards,

Javo
