Contract laser marking
We specialise in contract laser marking and engraving for customers who have particular engraving requirements. Laser marking of parts is a very specific and important part of the manufacturing process but is difficult to accomplish cost-effectively, in house, as this requires expensive machinery, software, and trained staff to perform a single task. Many companies find it simpler and more economical to outsource this task to specialists. We are active in the wholesale personalisation of customer supplied products and engrave anywhere between 500 and 5000 products a week.
"Direct to part" marking identifies each part without changing the size, shape or structural integrity of that part. It is used for applications in many different industries worldwide as a way of permanently marking parts to enable reliable identification. We can add sequential serial numbers, bar codes, QR codes or any other symbol to your part to enable tracking of products.
Contract laser cutting
Using our camera system to cut digitally printed material we can do very precise contract laser cutting on supplied items. For example, a company we work with makes small panels which need mounting with adhesive. They were unable to cut out the panels as their machinery couldn’t identify cut lines due to the adhesive backing but our laser can cut the panels and adhesive layers with ease.
Engraved labels and control panels
Whether it be warning labels, electrical labels, information labels or control panels, we can supply it all. We use UV stable acrylic, which is the modern replacement for Traffolyte and is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. It comes in a wide range of colours and finishes making it suitable for many applications.
We supply traditionally engraved brass plaques or custom stainless steel and wood plaques for many purposes from grand opening ceremonies to address plaques.
Answering your frequently asked questions
What size things do you engrave?
We can cut and/or engrave tiny through to large objects. Our large laser bed is 900mm wide but has pass-through doors so larger designs can be engraved by rotating the artwork. The same laser will also engrave a tiny identification tag, so the machine's capabilities really are many and varied.
What can you engrave on?
It’s easier to say what can’t be engraved! We cannot engrave vinyl or PVC based items for health and safety reasons - the cyanide gas given off is not very healthy for either staff or the lasers. However, most other materials can be engraved, but some may need an extra process to make the engraving really stand out.
How much does it cost?
We have a minimum charge of £50 + VAT which in most cases covers artwork, laser set-up and laser time. Repeat orders are accommodated without the need for artwork fees, and we quote for large jobs on an individual basis.
What artwork do you need?
For the laser's artwork, the file needs to be in vector format. We can work with bitmap, JPG etc, but these require converting to vector format for lasering which will incur an artwork fee. However, we have successfully converted shockingly, poor-quality images and hand-drawn scribbles to the imagined final piece. So get in touch and we’ll see what we can do.
How long will it take?
Our standard turn-around time is 10 days, but we do try to work to reasonable deadlines.
